Tips to Learn English

25/03/2020 By

If you’re looking to find a new job or to get promoted, if you are planning to travel abroad or if you simply enjoy learning new languages, Wall Street English can help you become proficient in English by providing a variety of study options.

Unlike the traditional method of learning where one can be frustrated or discouraged, the blended learning technique offered by Wall Street English can help the student be comfortable and motivated at the same time.

Nowadays, mastering the English language is an essential skill for finding a job, getting promoted and traveling. So, here are some tips that can help you kick off your English-learning journey:

-To improve your listening skills:

Expose yourself to the language as much as possible: try listening actively to music, podcasts, radio, TV, news, and movies. By paying attention to the lyrics, reading the subtitles or simply having an English radio in the background, you can improve your listening skills!

-Speaking skills:

Adults tend to have larger social circles which can help them practice English. The more people you know, the more you can practice. By attending Social Clubs and Complementary Classes or by simply coming to Wall Street English and starting conversations with staff members or students, you can practice your speaking skills!

-Reading skills:

Reading is a process that takes time to develop: your mind needs to attach meaning to the words. Here, adults have greater leverage over children since they have a well-developed vocabulary in one or more languages already. When adults learn new terms or concepts in English, they can easily link their existing knowledge of the world in other languages like their native language. You can read books or articles in English and you can switch the operating system of your mobile phone, tablet, and PC into English.

-Writing skills:

Writing down words or expressions that you think are useful can help you improve your writing skills. You can also develop this skill by keeping a diary or by writing comments on English blogs.

Studies showed that learning a foreign language strengthens your decision-making. In fact, when you reason in a non-native language, your decisions are distanced from emotions and beliefs related to your mother tongue. Making decisions in a foreign language decreases reactions based on emotions, therefore, decreasing bias.

In the end, as one of the most famous industrialists once said: “Anyone who stops learning is old — whether this happens at twenty or at eighty. Anyone who keeps on learning not only remains young but becomes constantly more valuable — regardless of physical capacity.“- Henry Ford.
