Everyone wants to make a good first impression in a job interview; one must know the do’s and the don’ts of the process and understand the mind of the interviewer to get accepted in a competitive job market. To do that, we highlighted a few statements to help you get ready for a job interview in English.

How to be ready for an interview in English

If you want to succeed in anything in life, you must be organized and well-prepared. Succeeding in a job interview is no different! For instance, you have to be well-informed about the company you’re applying to. You must also know how to sell your image perfectly to fit in the position and in the company in general. To do that, you can follow these instructions:

– Listen to yourself:

The only way to improve your English is to practice regularly. So practice it out loud; you can try it in front of a mirror, a family member, or a friend. You can also try to record yourself on your phone. Then, listen to it and you will improve with every try.

Structure of your introduction:

When you’re nervous, you can mix up your ideas, even while introducing yourself. To avoid that, you can mentally prepare a few questions that you will answer such as :

  1. What’s your current situation?
  2. How did your previous experience help you reach your current situation?
  3. What are you looking for?
  4. Why are you excited about this opportunity?
  5. Why do you think you fit in this position?

  • Ask questions :

Your interviewer will be expecting you to ask questions as well. He/she wants to know what you have in mind and if you’re really interested in the position. Here are some useful questions:

  1. What would my daily responsibilities be like in this position?
  2. I’m passionate about languages and I studied Spanish in college. Will this job give me opportunities to work with markets in Spain?

The Top 10 Questions in a Job Interview in English

There are plenty of questions interviewers can ask in a job interview. We have selected the top ten questions that can cross your path.

  1. Introduce Yourself:

Your interviewer will likely start the interview with this question to get to know you. So as we have already mentioned it above, you should prepare a good introduction.

  1. Talk about your greatest accomplishment:

You may have plenty of accomplishments, but pick one that will have the most impact and that will confirm that you have the qualities that the company is looking for.

  1. Describe a difficult work situation and what you did to overcome it:

This question will highlight your behavioral skills, so be ready to be in the spotlight with a “success story” to prove that you are the person for the job.

  1. Why did you leave your last job:

This is a tricky question as you don’t want to be saying bad things about a former employer. That’s why you need to state your reason in a positive context.

  1. What are the three positive things your last boss would say about you:

This is a good opportunity to flatter yourself through someone else’s words and you should quote your boss to answer this question.

  1. What can you do for us that other candidates can’t:

Emphasize what makes you unique when you’re asked. This will call attention to your experience, skills, and traits.

  1. What are your goals:

Usually, it’s better to talk about short-term and intermediate goals rather than locking yourself into the unknown. Don’t talk about your personal goals obviously. Stick to your professional goals in the company.

  1. What salary are you seeking:

It would be better if the interviewer tells you the range first. Try and do some research before the interview. Make sure to let the interviewer know you’re informed.

  1. Where do you see yourself in five years:

This question may seem easy and simple, yet it can make a huge difference to the interviewer and make him choose you over for the job. To answer, provide general ideas about the skills you want to develop, the types of roles you would like to be in, and things you would like to accomplish.

  1. Do you have any other questions:

Generally, this question is present in every interview, as the interviewer wants to give the candidate the space to express himself/ herself freely and to ask questions if something is not clear to him/her.
